Third Round | Picks 65 and 82

With two picks in the third round the New York Islanders selected winger  Kiril Kabanov of the Moncton Wildcats at number 65 and center Jason Clark of the Shattuck St Mary’s Midget Prep at number 82.

That extra third round pick came from the Arizona Coyotes who traded for the Isles third rounder in 2009.

In their draft years Kobanov had 23 points in 22 games while Clark had 46 points in 54 games for Shattuck.

Of the two, only Kobanov is still playing hockey professionally. He’s currently playing in Germany for Krefeld Pinguine, scoring 18 points in 29 games this year. Clark hasn’t played since 2015 it seems.

Both played in Bridgeport for some time, but as you can imagine never made it to the next level in the NHL. Combined they played 68 games and scored 15 points.

Looking at the remainder of the third round it’s not like the Islanders totally missed on some sort of hidden gem.

There aren’t many full-time NHL’ers in the 2010 third round. Players like Radko Gudas (66th) and Bryan Rust (80th) were taken int he third round after the Isles initial pick at 65.

The Islanders did about as well as they could with the picks they took. Neither were NHL’er.
