Prospects

According to the Athletic, the Islanders have the fifth best prospect pool in the entire league. So on top of them having a playoff team right now and a ton of cap space, they also have one of the best systems in the sport.

Oliver Wahlstrom and Noah Dobson are the big names who are at the forefront of this prospect pool. Both fell to the Isles in the 2018 NHL Draft, and the Isles smartly scooped them up. You also have Kieffer Bellows, Josh Ho-Sang, Michael Dal Colle, Otto Koivula, Bode Wilde and Ilya Sorokin that many are excited over.

If a few of these guys can crack the roster as early as next year they can provide cheap and effective play to this hockey club. Over the next two years many if not all of these names listed will get their shot with the big club, and that’s exciting.

While the Isles are playing veterans like Valtteri Filppula and Leo Komarov right now, eventually the youth will begin to get those minutes once the team begins to take form for the future. This lineup can be deadly as early as next season.

Not to mention the Isles currently have a pick in the first two rounds of this year’s draft to add to the prospect pool.
