Peter Chiarelli was fired from his job this week and the New York Islanders may be the ones who end up missing him the most.
It was a sad day in New York Islanders land when we found out that Peter Chiarelli will no longer be the General Manager of the Edmonton Oilers. Chiarelli was notorious for his trades, specifically the ones with the Islanders.
In honor of the many times Garth Snow of all people fleeced Peter Chiarelli in a trade, we will take a look back at some of our fondest memories.
On October 4, 2014, the Islanders gave up two second round picks and a conditional third-round pick to Boston for Johnny Boychuk. Don Cherry believed that was the final nail in the coffin for Chiarelli in Boston.
That trade was only the beginning, in June of 2015 the Islanders flipped Griffin Reinhart for a 2015 first and a 2015 second. Reinhart is now out of the league and the trade yielded both Mathew Barzal and Anthony Beauvillier in the draft. Another win for Garth Snow and company.
Garth Snow wasn’t going to stop there. After the 2016-2017 season, he flipped Ryan Strome for Jordan Eberle straight up. Eberle went on to put up 59 points with the Islanders in 2017-2018 while Strome had 34.
Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier, Johnny Boychuk, and Jordan Eberle are all reasons why the Islanders are in first place while Edmonton is still wallowing in mediocrity with the best player in the sport.
Peter Chiarelli, you sir will be missed.
