With the 12th pick in the NHL Draft, the New York Islanders selected Noah Dobson. He has been on fire since changing teams in the QMJHL.

Lou Lamoriello had a pretty solid first draft, at least on paper, with the New York Islanders. He found Oliver Wahlstrom, Noah Dobson and Bode Wilde with his first three picks in this past draft. Today, we’ll focus on the 19-year-old defenseman from Summerside.

Dobson got off to a bit of a slow start with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the QMJHL this year. On one of the worst team’s in the league, he had 16 points (9 goals, 7 assists) in 28 games. Not awful but well off his pace from the previous year.

After the trade to Rouyn-Noranda, Dobson has been phenomenal. In 15 games he has 19 points (all assists). As a team, they’re also 15-0-0 with Dobson in the lineup and are on a 17 game win streak. Safe to say Dobson has found a home.

With this kind of play don’t expect Dobson to stay in Rouyn-Noranda for very long. It’ll likely be one more year in the QMJHL and then a trip to New York with a real chance to make the team in 2020-2021.

Based on the AHL rule, he isn’t eligible to play in the league next year so it’s either on the Islanders or back in the Q for Noah. Both Dobson and Oliver Wahlstrom are first-round pick’s to be excited over.
