Three Stars

1. Josh Bailey: 2 Goals

He’s earned every little bit of strife that’s been thrown at him over the last few weeks. But this afternoon Josh Bailey deserves a ton of credit. Without his two goals who knows how this game ends up. It likely goes to overtime and at that point, it’s anyone’s game.

Josh Bailey delivered a vital win for the New York Islanders today.

2. Brock Nelson: 1 Goal, 1 Assist

Brock Nelson was back to creating goals for the Islanders. He picked up assists number 26 and goal number 23 on the season. He’s passed his career high a while ago, but he’s now a point away from number 50.

A fifty point season was not in the cards for Brock Nelson back in September. It’s going to drive up his extension, but if this is the “real” Brock Nelson then it’s clearly worth it.

3. Johnny Boychuk: 1 Assist, 5 Shots

We didn’t see him get a hold of Jakub Voracek, but Johnny Boychuk made his presence felt in the game. He picked up an assist on Nick Leddy’s goal, registered five shots on net and blocked four shots.

Begging the question; why did Barry Trotz have him scratched exactly?
