Scouting Report. D. Ville Heinola*. 26. 105. Pick Analysis. Lukko (Liiga)

*Anaheim acquired the pick from the Buffalo Sabres in a trade for Brandon Montour.

Heinola is a defensive prospect from Finland. He plays in Liiga and has been fairly productive for his team with 14 points. While playing at the World Juniors with the U20 team he had two points in five games.

70. Scouting Report. Moncton Wildcats. Jakob Pelletier. Pick Analysis. C. 27

Pelletier is a very versatile piece that Boston nabs towards the end of the first round. He can play all three forward positions and he’s shown to be an impressive goal scorer in the QMJHL. In 65 games this year he has 89 points (39 goals, 50 assists).

Pick Analysis. 95. Scouting Report. LW. Kelowna Rockets. Nolan Foote*. 28

*Rangers acquired the pick from the Winnipeg Jets in a trade for Kevin Hayes.

The left winger from Denver, Nolan Foote goes to the Rangers here. In the WHL he’s nearly a point per game player with the Kelowna Rockets. He has 63 points (36 goals, 27 assists) in 66 games a 23 point increase from last season.

Pick Analysis. LW. Scouting Report. AIK (SHL). Nils Hoglander. 29. 19

Nils Hoglander is a solid piece for Washington on the left side. Playing in the SHL he has 14 points in 50 games. Keep in mind that’s against some fairly steep competition. In the U20 Juniors Tournament, he had seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in eight games.

The first goalie off the board goes to Calgary. In 25 games in the USDP, Knight has a .911 save percentage and 2.48 goals against average. David Rittich has been okay for Calgary this year as their starter but getting a long-term fix would be ample in this draft.

Scouting Report. D. 31. Pick Analysis. USA U18. Alex Vlasic. 23

The last pick in the first round goes to Tampa who selects the US-born defenseman, Alex Vlasic. Vlasic has been solid in the USDP with 25 points (4 goals, 21 assists) in 49 games. TSN ranked him as their 23rd overall prospect for the 2019 draft.
