The New York Islanders are headed to the playoffs, with one game left here are all the scenarios for the playoff picture and how they play in round one.

With 81 games in the books, the New York Islanders have one more important regular season game left before the playoffs start. Game 82 will decide who they play and who gets home ice advantage in the series.

So what we’ll do is go through each scenario for Game 82 and explain who the Isles will play and who has home ice.

If the Islanders get one or two points against the Capitals and the Penguins get one or two points against the Rangers, it’s Islanders vs Penguins in the first round. In this scenario, the Islanders would have home ice.

If the Islanders get zero, one, or two points, the Penguins get zero and the Hurricanes get two against the Philadelphia Flyers then it would be Islanders vs Hurricanes in the first round. The Islanders would have home ice in this scenario as well.

Lastly, if the Isles get zero points on Wednesday, and the Penguins get two then it will be Islanders vs Penguins with the Pens having home ice.

Of course, if all three teams lose the standings remain the same and it will be Islanders vs Penguins with the Islanders getting home ice. So there is your rooting guide to who the Islanders can play in the playoffs based on the win/loss scenarios for Game 82.
