The New York Islanders will be taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins in round one of the playoffs. Here’s a preview of how they match up.

For the first time since 1988, the New York Islanders have home ice advantage in a playoff series. The Islanders magical season finished up last night with them getting points 102 and 103 on the season, their highest point total since 1984.

After the Penguins were able to get a point against the Rangers, we found out that the Islanders would be taking on Pittsburgh in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The teams have played four times this year and the Islanders are 2-1-1 in those games. While the Islanders have the slight edge on the season series, the Penguins are still nothing to scoff at.

They’ve been in the playoffs for 13 straight seasons. Their core of Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel, and Evgeni Malkin is powerful, and they have a ton of playoff experience under their belt. While the Islanders, are much younger and don’t have nearly the same experience.

Here’s the schedule for the series:

Game 1: April 10 Wednesday Nassau Coliseum 7:30 pm

Game 2: April 12 Friday Nassau Coliseum 7:30 pm

Game 3: April 14 Sunday PPG Paints Arena 12:00 pm

Game 4: April 16 Tuesday PPG Paints Arena 7:30 pm

Game 5: April 18 Thursday Nassau Coliseum TBD

Game 6: April 20 Saturday PPG Paints Arena TBD

Game 7: April 22 Monday Nassau Coliseum TBD
