The Penguins are led by 24-year-old Matt Murray in net. Murray already has two Stanley Cups under his belt and had a pretty nice bounce-back year for Pittsburgh this year after a rough 2017-2018 season.
He started 50 games for the Pens, and posted a 29-14-6 record. His save percentage was a solid .919 with a 2.69 goals against average. That’s fairly average numbers for a starting goalie in the NHL.
His backup, Casey DeSmith was competent. He went 15-11-4 with a .916 save percentage and a 2.75 goals against average.
The Islanders have the league’s best goalie duo. Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss had phenomenal seasons under Barry Trotz this year posting career seasons.
Lehner led the way with 43 starts, a 25-13-5 record and a save percentage of .930. His goals against average was just as impressive with a 2.13. He established himself as the starter and is projected to start Game 1 for the Isles.
Thomas Greiss has been just as good. In 39 starts he was 23-14-2 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.28 goals against average. If anything were to happen to Robin Lehner the Isles would be in good hands with Greiss.
