The New York Islanders are now guided by two brilliant experienced hockey people. The Isles ship is now being run by Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz and they have been worth their weight in gold.

How valuable has Barry Trotz and Lou Lamoriello been to the New York Islanders? Even though the Isles lost their franchise player John Tavares last summer, it’s been a long time since the Islanders were in this good of shape.

That’s not a slap on Tavares but rather speaks to what Lou and Trotz have brought to this franchise.

It’s hard to begin where Lou and Trotz have brought to the table to the Islander organization. It’s plentiful. On the ice, they brought structure, team defense, and doing what it takes to play winning hockey.

Off the ice, these hockey guru’s have brought a winning culture, as well as a winning mentality. They have also brought accountability to anyone who puts on an Islanders jersey.

Lou and Trotz have preached that team success is what the New York Islanders are now all about. If putting up better numbers is more important to a player, they will not be playing for the Islanders very long.

All of this has resulted in a magical year for the blue and orange.

Future

Lou and Trotz in a very short period of time have developed an incredible culture. But this new Islander culture isn’t just for the 2018-19 season but for years to come.

The Islander roster is a mixture of veterans and young players developing. The Isles also have an impressive prospect pipeline many of which are closing in on their NHL careers.

Lou and Trotz have built something special on Long Island in less than a year. They have done so from both a tangible and intangible perspective. Not only have Lou and Trotz laid a foundation but they are well under their way in terms of construction.

Lou and Trotz value to the Islanders is almost impossible to measure. One thing is for sure and that is the Islander organization hasn’t had this bright of a future since the Stanley Cup years.
