The New York Islanders find themselves in an 0-2 hole. Their head coach, Barry Trotz has the perfect mindset as the series shifts to Carolina.

The first two games in this series were about as frustrating as possible. Through a large part of this series, the New York Islanders have looked like the better team despite being the one down 2-0.

In Game 2 specifically, the Islanders hit at least five posts. They were so close on numerous opportunities to score but couldn’t break through for that equalizer.

Even though the team is in a really tough spot, losing the first two games at home, Barry Trotz has the perfect mindset. “We’re going to Carolina to win two games, plain and simple.”

You have to remain confident if your Trotz, even though teams who go up 2-0 have an 87.2 percent chance of winning the series. You just have to take it one shift, one period, and one game at a time.

The Islanders haven’t lost three games in a row in regulation all year, they’re a resilient bunch and I doubt they go quietly. It helps that their coach has experience with these situations before.

Last year, the Capitals went down 2-0 to Columbus on home ice. They had to head on the road for Game 3 down 2-0 and they ended up rattling off four in a row to win the series in six games. Now, there’s no guarantee that the Isles are going to do that too but you have to have that same mindset.

The Islanders are down, not out.
