Round 5: Juuso Pärssinen (Left Wing)

18 years old, 6’2″, 203 lbs, Liiga

With no picks in the third and fourth round, thanks to the Brandon Davidson and Travis Hamonic trades, the Islanders next selection isn’t until round five. In round five they go to the wing and land Juuso Parssinen.

Playing in U20, he was rather productive putting up 22 points (13 goals, 9 assists) in 36 games. At the World Juniors, he was also rather productive scoring 15 points (9 goals, 6 assists) in 24 games.

He projects best as a bottom-six forward in the NHL. He wore an A on his chest and displayed good leadership qualities which is usually something Lou looks for.

Round 6:  Carter Berger (Left D)

19 years old, 6’0″, 201 lbs, BCHL

The Islanders finally go to the defensive side in round six. They have so much depth at that position in the system that waiting until round six to pull the trigger shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Berger is on the older side for a prospect being drafted but he put up solid numbers in the BCHL with 63 points (27 goals, 36 assists) in 54 games.

Round 7: Matias Mäntykivi (Center)

17 years old, 5’11”, 159 pounds, JR Liiga

Playing U20, Mantykivi put up nice numbers. He was the assistant captain for his club and had 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists). He has some interesting hands but needs size and more development in his physical game.

The Islanders go center heavy in the 2019 draft, which is fine because it was neglected for so long. Assuming that there are no trades the Islanders should be happy coming away with a draft class looking like this.
