The New York Islanders could be one of four teams that are in on Toronto Maple Leafs RFA Mitch Marner according to Darren Dreger.

In speaking with Toronto radio station TSN 1050, Darren Dreger believed that the New York Islanders are a team of interest on Toronto Maple Leafs RFA Mitch Marner.

Dreger indicates that the New York Islanders want to add a big-time player to their roster. And that’s true, the Islanders are in on UFA Artemi Panarin, so why wouldn’t they be in on RFA Mitch Marner?

The Islanders have a need for top-end talent on the wing, specifically on the right-wing, and have money to spend on such talent.

Top Quality RW

With 94 points in only his third NHL season, the sky seems to be the limit with Mitch Marner. He’s already a star in the league and is on his way to becoming a superstar.

Only two players had a more productive season than Mitch Marner did from the right-wing. Hart Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov and Patrick Kane. Both had 100+ point seasons.

Marner is a top quality player in his position, there’s no question about it. And he’s only 22-years-old. Marner still hasn’t technically peaked as an NHL player yet. In a few more years time he’ll be an absolute superstar in the league.

Landing him would be incredibly beneficial for the New York Islanders. Tossing him to the right side of Mathew Barzal gives the New York Islanders an incredible upgrade offensively. It also allows them to slide Jordan Eberle down to the second line next to Brock Nelson.

Again, think of the possibilities of having him next to Mathew Barzal (what I’ve come to call the Calder Connection line).
