New York Islanders prospect Noah Dobson needs to be in the NHL next season. Here are three reasons why the young defenseman will take the next step in his career.

Noah Dobson is easily the New York Islanders number one prospect within their system. This time last year we were told that Oliver Wahlstrom was the Islanders number one prospect. In Corey Pronman’s assessment, Wahlstrom was the Islanders only “high-end NHL prospect” (subscription required).

But with Wahlstrom having a less than stellar season with Boston College in the NCAA and with Noah Dobson winning yet another Memorial Cup Championship, the defenseman has taken top honors within the New York Islanders system.

As the 2019-20 season approaches, the thought for Dobson and Islanders fans is: “what’s next?”

I’ve said it a number of times on one of our various Eyes on Isles podcasts; Noah Dobson will make the New York Islanders NHL roster next season.

It’s not just some gut feeling that I have. It’s not just me putting way too much stock in a Lou Lamoriello quote (subscription required) about Dobson’s chances.

"“The two years he’s had, I’d be awfully disappointed if he didn’t have a great chance of making this team,” Lamoriello said."

Both certainly play a role in my confidence, but there are a few other factors that I considered when I guaranteed he’d be playing in the NHL next season.

So here’s a peak behind the curtain. Here’s what ‘s gone into my decision-making process to claim that Noah Dobson will be on the New York Islanders starting roster for the 2019-20 NHL season.
