Chicago Blackhawks @ Nassau Coliseum | April 2nd

NBC Game that night: N/A

The Islanders biggest fumble of the offseason was how they dealt with goalie Robin Lehner. After a 2.13GAA, 0.930SV%, six shutouts, and being named as a Vezina finalist the Islanders let Robin Lehner walk in free agency.

There doesn’t seem to be a good reason as to why Lehner isn’t here on another short-term contract. But such is life.

Thankfully for Lehner, he was able to secure a single year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks during free agency. On April 2nd, Robin Lehner will make his return to the Nassau Coliseum to play against the New York Islanders.

It’s surely going to be an emotional affair for both player and fans.

Lehner quickly became a fan favorite after telling the world his truth, that he’s been battling addiction as well as being diagnosed as bipolar and ADHD with PTSD and trauma. It was an incredibly brave and courageous act for Lehner and for all of those fighting a familiar fight.

Chants of “Lehner” will undoubtedly rain down from every section of the Nassau Coliseum when Lehner takes the ice for the Blackhawks.

It’s another perfect opportunity for NBC to broadcast Lehner’s story to a wide audience, to show the relationship between players and fans, and to get the Blackhawks on national TV again.
