New York Islanders 2019 Training Camp Will Be A Gauntlet

Goalies
With Jakub Skarek now in North America – our in transition – that adds yet another name to the New York Islanders goaltending depth chart. The two NHL’ers are obvious. With Semyon Varlamov being the starter and Thomas Greiss being the backup. Or at least that’s what it should be.
It remains to be seen if the Islanders crease becomes a 1A-1B situation like last season with Lehner and Greiss effectively splitting the starts.
But from there the picture gets a little fuzzy.
The Islanders still have Christopher Gibson in the system and Linus Soderstrom is set to make his North American debut after recovering from injury. And now you add Skarek to the mix. Unless the Isles plan on running a Garth Snow-ian three-headed monster situation that’s one too many goalies. One of them will end up playing at the ECHL.
One of Linus Soderstrom, Jakub Skarek or Christopher Gibson will be going to Worcester to play with the Railers. Or possibly traded to an organization that needs goaltending depth.

I’m looking forward to seeing yet another New York islanders prospect take then next step in his career. I’m also absolutely jazzed for what should be an incredible Islanders 2019 training camp.
