BUFFALO, NY – JUNE 24: Kieffer Bellows poses for a portrait after being selected 19th overall by the New York Islanders in round one during the 2016 NHL Draft on June 24, 2016 in Buffalo, New York. (Photo by Jeffrey T. Barnes/Getty Images)

Bridgeport Sound Tigers Stats: 12 G, 7 A, 19 PTS

It’s been a bumpy ride for Kieffer Bellows since being drafted in 2016. His 2016-2017 season at Boston University was a poor one as he only had 14 points in 34 games. He quickly left BU and became a monster in the WHL putting up 74 points (41 goals, 33 assists) in 56 games.

With that kind of a season, hopes were high heading into Bridgeport last year. His 19 points in 73 games left a lot to be desired, but to be fair he came on strong with three points in five playoff games.

Bellows will likely start the year in Bridgeport, with Michael Dal Colle and Josh Ho-Sang more likely to be the young forwards who sneak away with a roster spot. But make no mistake, if he starts strong in the AHL and one of the aforementioned struggle he can absolutely get a shot.

Bellows is a big body, like Anders Lee but with more skill. The ceiling for Bellows is high and there’s a reason to be excited when thinking of Bellows in a blue and orange sweater.
