Anthony Beauvillier

I’ve already looked at Beau’s chances at playing center. Beau can produce at the same rate that Valtteri Filppula did last season. He can also be just as effective in the faceoff circle.

Even in a down year, Beau scored 28 points for the New York Islanders last season. Falling just short of the 31 scored by Valtteri Filppula.

The biggest knock against Beau – aside from him disappearing for parts of the season – is his defensive play. Can he play defense and put up points? Filppula started 57.7 percent of his shifts in the defensive zone compared to Beau’s 58.1 percent offensive zone starts.

I think of all the candidates Beau makes the most sense based on what he brings to the table and what they are looking to replace with Filppula’s departure. He’s not the pick I’d make, he’s just the one that makes the most sense.

Ideally, I’d give the role to Otto Koivula and keep Beau on the wing. I love the idea of prospects taking the next step in their careers. Call me a sucked for narrative.

Chance of taking the spot: 7/10

With this many players up for a single position, the 2019 New York Islanders training camp should be mighty interesting.
