Hit the Net

How many times have you turned your head away from the TV set in frustration because Ryan Pulock missed the net from a wonderful scoring position? Countless, right? The man has an incredibly hard shot, unfortunately, it’s not incredibly accurate.

In 2018-19 Pulock had 369 total shot attempts. That’s up from the 358 total shot attempts from 2017-18. Of those 369 attempts, 180 hit the net. In other words, he was 49 percent accurate when it came to hitting the net.

He literally misses the net more than he hits it. (Although barely.)

In 2019-20 that accuracy rate needs to go up. Not by much, but it has to hit above 50 percent.

Some of the best goals scorers on the blue line typically hit the net at around 53 percent of the time. Four percentage points might not be much, but with 369 total shot attempts last season he’d add another 15 shots to his totals.

Goal: +50 percent of his shot attempts on net

Ryan Pulock likely has one of the hardest shots in the league. It’s been clocked at over 100 miles-per-hour a few times already. But having a hard shot doesn’t do you any good if you can’t hit the net.

That was literally a plotline in the original Mighty Ducks movie!
