New York Islanders Training Camp Cuts: Seven Players Place on Waivers

The cuts keep coming to the New York Islanders training camp roster. On Wednesday, 12 players were cut from 52, now another seven players have been cut.
Only 33 players remain on the New York Islanders training camp roster. On Thursday, the Islanders placed seven players on waivers for re-assignment to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The seven players waived by the Islanders are: Christopher Gibson (G), Jared Coreau (G), Kyle Burroughs (D), Seth Helgeson (D), Cole Bardreau (C), Travis St. Denis (RW), and Matthew Lorito (RW/LW).
None of the players waived was going to make the Islanders NHL roster. But along with the 12 names cut on Wednesday things start to clear up quite a bit for the Islanders.
One Group
Of the seven players sent through the waiver wire, it’s doubtful that any get picked up by another team. That’s going to make for a crowded crease with Gibson and Coreau heading to Bridgeport. With the two, the goalie count at Bridgeport’s training camp is up to five.
The goalies currently with Bridgeport are Islanders third-round pick in 2018 Jakub Skarek, fourth-round pick in 2014 Linus Soderstrom, and former Worchester Railers goalie Evan Buitenhuis.
With the cuts on Wednesday and on Thursday, the New York Islanders are now down to a single group of players at training camp. Almost half of the training camp roster has been cut down.
Now it’s time for the difficult decisions to make.
I don’t know about you, but when I saw how many players the Islanders were waiving I figured Josh Ho-Sang was going to be on that list. But he’s still here to fight for another chance to get a spot on the roster.

The Islanders only have a few more days to make their decisions. Final rosters need to be made by the opening of the 2019-20 season October 2nd, 2019. That’s only six days away.
