Things have gotten real negative recently for the New York Islanders. Here are three things to focus your positive energy on.

After a 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, things have gotten pretty negative for the New York Islanders. There was certainly ample ammunition following the loss.

Semyon Varlamov was pulled halfway through the second period after allowing four goals on nineteen shots. With the four goals against and a weak goal against in his first outing in the season opener, many fans wished Robin Lehner was back in net.

Brock Nelson took almost a quarter of his penalty time from last season in a single period against the Oilers. Leading to Barry Trotz benching the Isles centerman for a significant portion of the game.

And the Islanders defense that was so good last season and looked good to start the season resembled more like they had all made the jump up from the AHL the night before and not like the best defensive unit in the NHL in 2018-19.

There was a lot to dislike after the game against the Edmonton Oilers. But, look, it’s not all doom and gloom. There are still things to like with the New York Islanders game right now.

So in the spirit of keeping things positive, here are three positive takeaways so far from the New York Islanders season.
