The season is still young, but with a break in the New York Islanders schedule, it’s time to look at some surprises for this young season.

Through their first eight games, the New York Islanders hold a 5-3-0 record for ten points. Good enough for fourth in the Metropolitan division, though only four points back of the division leaders Washington Capitals.

We waited all summer for the season to start. It finally came and we got eight games to wet our whistle’s with. Eight games where the Islanders both looked awful but also put up a four-game win streak. And then it was gone.

With eight games in the bank, the New York Islanders are on a four-day break. It’s a weird flex by schedule makers. After three weeks of hockey, some teams like the Islanders get a week-long break. For…reasons.

So as we wait for the New York Islanders to get back to the ice I thought it was a good time to look over what we’ve seen from the New York Islanders and what stood out. Over these eight games what has been a surprise?

I’ve pulled three pleasant surprises from these last eight games.
