New York Islanders: Linus Soderstrom to ECHL Jakub Skarek to AHL

Two of the New York Islanders goalies were swapped between the ECHL and AHL. Linus Soderstrom is going to the AHL and Jakub Skarek is headed to the AHL.
There’s movement in the New York Islanders system. Goalies are being swapped between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL and the Worcester Railers of the ECHL.
Going up to the AHL is 2018 third-round pick Jakub Skarek. Going down to the ECHL is the Islanders fourth-round pick in 2014, Linus Soderstrom.
For Skarek this is an opportunity to keep building on what he’s done so far this year. For Soderstrom, it’s a chance to get some game time.
Getting Reps
In two starts for the Worcester Railers, Jakub Skarek has averaged a 1.42GAA and a 0.941SV%. More importantly, he picked up wins in both starts.
Now he can go up to the AHL and provide some back up to Chris Gibson. Gibson has played well with a 2.58GAA and a 0.921SV% in three games played, but his counterpart, Jared Coreau, hasn’t. In three games played, Coreau has averaged a 4.03GAA and 0.876SV% with an 0-3-0-0 record.
The Sound Tigers are 1-3-1-1 on the season and bottom of the AHL’s Atlantic Division with four points.
In the AHL, Skarek will get a chance to show what he can do against better opposition. And is now a step away from the NHL.
For Linus Soderstrom, going to the ECHL is all about getting reps. Soderstrom hasn’t played a competitive game since the 2017-18 season due to injury. In the ECHL he’ll have a chance to get some games in.
In the ECHL there are big breaks and periods were games come at you quick and fast. After a 12 day period were the Railers played twice, they’ll play three games back-to-back between October 25 and 27. From December 13 to 21 they’ll play six times with two back-to-backs.
