Islanders Cole Bardreau Scores First NHL Goal on Penalty Shot (Highlight)

After a long AHL career, Islanders Cole Bardreau has finally made it to the NHL and has now scored his first NHL goal. On a penalty shot!
We’ve all had the same dream. Growing up we all wanted to skate in the NHL and score a goal. For some, that dream comes true fairly quickly. Mario Lemieux scores on his first shot on his first shift in his first game. For others, it takes a little longer. For Islanders Cole Bardreau, he had to wait until he was 26 years old before he would score his first NHL goal.
Bardreau was never drafted. He’d make his way to the NHL the hard way.
After four years at Cornell University, Fairport, NY native played five seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Eventually, the Sound Tigers would sign him in 2019-20. Four games into the Sound Tigers season, he’d get a call up to the NHL for the Islanders.
Penalty Shot Goal
Seven games into his NHL career, Bardreau gets a clear opportunity to score. He’s alone on goal against the Ottawa Senators Craig Anderson. He’s lining up the shot, and then Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki hauls him down.
Penalty shot.
With the possibility to put his team ahead and score his first career goal, Bardreau’s nerves must have been stretched as thin as possible. If so, it didn’t look like it. Bardreau calmly took the puck and fired a wrist shot through Craig Anderson.
What a way to score your first NHL goal. Hats off to Cole Bardreau, he deserved that.
He’s worked his butt off his entire career. He’s only been with the Islanders for six games and already Barry Trotz, a two-time Jack Adams and Stanley Cup-winning coach already has complete faith in him.
