Islanders: Mathew Barzal Loves Playing Against John Tavares

It was another great game for Mathew Barzal and the New York Islanders against John Tavares. This is turning into a theme for him.
When John Tavares decided to leave the New York Islanders, this instantly became Mathew Barzal’s team. So far, he’s been up for the challenge, especially when the Islanders play their former captain.
In four games against the Maple Leafs with Tavares, Barzy has six points (4 goals, 2 assists). The kid loves the big stage and he thrives off of it.
His goal last night was a thing of beauty, and the cele to go along with it just shows you the passion that he plays with on a nightly basis:
Barzal and the Islanders are now 3-1 against Tavares, and it feels good to see your best player take it so personally and use it as motivation. It’s pretty obvious that he loves to play against the Maple Leafs.
Fans chanted “Barzy’s Better” and while Barzal still has a way to go before he’s recognized on the same level as Tavares, he is certainly on his way to becoming a clutch performer and a superstar for the Islanders.
So far, the Barzal era has gotten off to a much better start than the Tavares era, that much is for sure.
