Betting Odds

Courtesy of the Action Network, the money lines for tonight’s game (at the time of writing) is set at:

+110 for the Islanders
-130 for the Penguins

As the home team, the Penguins are always going to get an edge against whoever the visiting team is. When it comes to NHL money lines, the home team always gets a bump. Unless we’re talking about the Minnesota Wild at home to the Washington Capitals.

The Penguins are a good home team this season. With a 7-3-1 record, taking 15 from a possible 22 points they have the fourth-best home record in the division. They’re tenth in the league in terms of point percentage with 0.682.

The Islanders haven’t spent much time on the road this season. Through 18 games they’ve played six games on the road, four of those coming in their last ten games. But the Islanders hold a 5-1-0 record on the road.

Which is why the Islanders are only a +110 “underdog” on the night. A +110 line implies that the oddsmakers are giving the Isles a 47 percent chance of winning tonight. A -130 odd implies a 56 percent chance of winning for the Penguins.

So if you fancy, the Islanders continuing their point streak to make it 15, then you could make some money tonight. A $100 bet would return $210.
