Betting Odds

The Islanders hold the better record and are the home team, so we know they’ll be the favorite. But by how much?

Courtesy of the Action Network, the money line for an Islanders win is at -135 (at the time of writing). Oddsmakers aren’t the only ones to favor the Islanders. According to Action Network, 60 percent of the bets have been placed on the Islanders.

There are a few reasons for that. The simple one is that the Islanders are a good home team with a 9-2-1 record while the Penguins aren’t a good road team with a 4-4-1 record.

Then you factor in all of the injuries the Penguins have. They’re missing their number one center. Their number one defenseman is out. Their second paid RHD is now out. And then big role players like Bjugstad and Hornqvist are gone. It’s hard to replace all of that quality.

Then there’s also the streak.

Isles players and staff can say what they will about not paying attention to the streak, but we all know it’s on their minds in some way. To set a franchise record is a big deal. To set such an impressive record as a 16-game point streak is even more impressive.

This game means something and the players are going to play like it.
