Joel Eriksson Ek

Why is he available?

Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch wrote back in late October that the Minnesota Wild had a few names on the trade block, one being center Joel Eriksson Ek.

"Names on the market include injured Minny forwards Kevin Fiala and Joel Eriksson Ek, along with centre Ryan Donato."

Remember, in October, Paul Fenton was no longer in charge. He has already been canned and Bill Guerin was named as his replacement. By October, when Garrioch published his article, Guerin had been in the seat for over two months.

The Wild as sitting four points above the bottom-dwelling Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference. They need to retool and rebuild their roster. Which means they’ll have to part with quality players to bring in picks and prospects.

With nine points in 22 games so far Eriksson Ek is having a good season. He’s on pace for 34 points. His career-high is 16.

Islanders Interest Level: 3/5

If the Islanders are looking for a third-line center, Eriksson Ek is a good fit. Not a great fit, but a good one. He’s also only 22-years-old. If he’s still on the block picking him up might be a good idea.

With Derick Brassard transitioning to the wing, the Isles are going to need a third-line center. The cost for the young center won’t be nearly the same as Jean-Gabriel Pageau out in Ottawa.
