3. The Islanders need more offensive scoring and another elite player

Here is one stat from the Dallas game that stood out to me. Three Islander defensemen had more shots on goal, four, than any offensive player. Players such as Bailey, Eberle, Brassard, and Beauvillier had zero shots on goal.

The Stars were great at clogging up the slot and keeping the Islanders to the outside. The Stars had a very Islandersy game.

Trotz is mixing his lines every game, as he did tonight. Johnston with Barzal? When you see line combinations like that, Trotz is trying any line combo in an attempt to spur some offense. It also signals that offense is becoming a problem for this team.

The Islanders are still playing pretty well defensively, but their goalies’ statistics are not quite as good as last year and if the team is not leading in goaltending and defensive stats in almost all categories, they need to make up for it with better scoring.

It never seemed in this game they could generate the type of offense they needed to come back and win.

Time for Lou to go out and get this team a dynamic and high scoring offensive player. The Islanders play games in Tampa and Florida this week and need good efforts and two solid wins before they face Buffalo next Saturday at home.
