If you’re hoping the New York Islanders make a trade for Taylor Hall, you’re going to want to sit on Twitter and hit the refresh button. The New Jersey Devils have kept him out for precautionary reasons.

The Taylor Hall trade saga has taken a climactic turn. A number of teams such as the New York Islanders are likely calling on New Jersey Devils GM Ray Shero to work a trade. And it looks like things have taken a step towards a trade actually happening.

On Friday, just before puck drop against the Colorado Avalanche, the New Jersey Devils kept their Hart Trophy winger off the game-day roster. Their reason was “precautionary reasons”.

That’s NHL code for, we don’t want him to get injured while we work on a trade.

Pierre LeBrun tweeted

that there is traction in ongoing trade talks with teams.

Trade Incoming

This was very much a game-time decision by the Devils. Taylor Hall was listed in the lineup sheet given to media members before the game. Hall even participated in warmups.

Now, as a healthy scratch for precautionary reasons, the hockey world waits to see what happens and where Hall lands next.

The New York Islanders could use a player like Taylor Hall in their lineup. The Islanders need a goal scorer. With the 23rd ranked offense in all situations and 28th ranked offense at 5on5, the Isles need someone who’s scored 20+ goals six times and 50+ points every year but three (one was the lockout year and another was his rookie year).

The cost is going to be massive to land Taylor Hall from a divisional rival. There’s also something to be said about the fact that he’s a UFA at the end of the year. Do you go all-in on a player that could get the Isles to contender status for seven months?

This isn’t the last we hear on the Taylor Hall trade saga, but it’s starting to get interesting. Last note, it seems the Devils want to trade him before the roster freeze on December 19th so a trade could be coming soon.
