Islanders team of the decade: Best players by position

Defenseman 2: Johnny Boychuk
2010-2019 Islanders Stats: 34G, 93A, 127Pts, 369GP
In October of 2014, Garth Snow acquired not one but two top-pairing defensemen on the same day. One of them was veteran, and Stanley Cup Champion, Johnny Boychuk from the Boston Bruins. Boychuk was immediately an integral part of what the Isles defense would look like for the next few years.
That first year was his best season with the Islanders, and his career. He put up 35 points (9 goals, 26 assists) averaging 21:41of ice time per night. Both he and Nick Leddy remained the top pair for years to come.
Over the past two seasons, Boychuk in his age 35 and 36 seasons respectively, has taken on a smaller role. Now, he plays just 17:46 a night but he is still a physical presence on the blue line and a great third pair guy.
In six seasons with the Islanders, Boychuk has 127 points in 369 games.
Honorable Mention: Travis Hamonic
Drafted by the Islanders second round in 2008, Travis Hamonic was a big part of the Islanders this decade. He played for seven years during the decade and had 146 points in 444 games. He ate minutes, especially in 2013-2014 25:01 to be exact.
