Anthony Mantha | Detroit Red Wings

When you look at his stats sheet and see 36 points in 2016-17 followed by two 48 point seasons doesn’t scream top-line player. But the soon to be 26-year-old is just getting into his prime and he was on the cusp of a career year this season.

With 43 games played in 2019-20, Mantha put up 38 points. Over a full season that puts him on pace for a 73 point season. On a terrible Detroit Red Wings team.

Anthony Mantha spent most of his time playing alongside Dylan Larkin, so lining up with a speedy playmaking center isn’t going to be something new for Mantha.

The 6’5″ 234lbs winger is a big body that puts goals in from just about everywhere. Of course with his size, he’s a good net-front guy, but that’s not the best part of his game, his release is incredible. Mantha can put up goals from just about anywhere in the offensive zone.

He’s a pending RFA so he immediately needs a new deal, but with his production, this year he’s not likely to command anything more than $5 million. And I think even a $5 million payday might be generous for Mantha.

I think in the right situation Mantha could be the guy the Isles need.

Is He Available?

The Detroit Red Wings have some choices to make as they start to rebuild for the future. Mantha could still factor in Steve Yzerman‘s plans, but at 26 he could bring back a good package for the rebuilding Red Wings. Perhaps a veteran player (mainly to make some cap space), a B-level prospect, and a mid-round pick?
