1. Goaltending

As of right now goaltending is the Islanders’ strongest asset. The blue and orange have Semyon Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin in their ranks. It looks like they are also adding veteran netminder, Cory Schneider, but that deal has yet to be confirmed by the Isles.

As we’ve seen in years prior, goaltending weeds out the teams in the NHL. Every season the best teams are led by a hot goaltender or a tandem of goalies. Varlamov and Thomas Greiss were one of the main reasons the Islanders got so far last year in the playoffs and it looks like the Islanders only strengthened in that department.

As of right now, the Islanders have one of the best goaltending tandems on paper. In a shortened season both, and potentially all three, goalies can help separate the Isles from the rest of the pack.

With a solid defense in front of them, the Islanders’ goaltenders can be the catalyst that brings them to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
