Sydney Martin reveals NY Islanders rookie Matthew Schaefer's favorite TV show

Children’s television has certainly changed over the years. For someone like myself who grew up in the 90s, Barney and Thomas the Tank Engine were two of the more popular choices for kids.

For NY Islanders rookie defenseman, as an 18-year-old who grew up in the 2010s, he’d probably ask, “ Who the heck are Barney and Thomas the Tank?”

Living with the Martins and their young children, the age gap isn’t that wide, meaning they have the same tastes in TV shows.

Schaefer and Paw Patrol

“The other day, Schaef put on Paw Patrol for the girls and was like, ‘I used to love this show,’” Sydney Martin said on the Never Offside podcast with Julie Petry and Cat Toffoli. “I was like, holy… what year were you born? He was like ‘2007.’ I was like, all right, I need a minute. He sat there with the girls and watched Paw Patrol.”

The Martins and Schaefer have been extremely open about their current living situation, as it seems almost every day, there is something new regarding Schaefer spending quality time with the Martins' kids, acting as more than just a babysitter.

With the holiday season approaching, Schaefer asked to watch his favorite holiday movie with the kids.

“It was really cute too, the other day he’s like, ‘When it’s Christmas, can we watch The Polar Express with the girls? That’s my favorite movie.’ I was like, 'This is so sweet.'”

Matt Martin has been and is one of the most beloved post-dynasty Islanders, and now he’s passing that torch to Schaefer. Seeing the two together and the relation built between Schaefer and the Martin family is exactly the content fans love to see.
