The New York Islanders had two tough losses this weekend. I bet they’re happy that the new week is beginning and the last two games are in the rear view.

This weekend featured two tough losses to two bottom feeders, so it’s a safe bet to say the New York Islanders are ready to put this weekend behind them.

Brian Erni of SNY thinks this weekend signified the end of the Isles season. It’s tough to argue with his logic when you take in all of the factors in this case.

You can give me that it’s January and that there’s a lot of hockey to be played, but I’d flip it right back and say that with the sample size we’ve seen it’s clear that it’s just not the Islanders year. Anything that could go wrong did go wrong.

Just think about it, the free agent acquisitions haven’t had a good year, Mathew Barzal got sent back to Seattle, Anthony Beauvillier can’t find his way into the lineup, Jaroslav Halak is in the AHL, John Tavares even seems to be struggling.

It’s just been a frustrating year for this team, and to be a fan and or writer talking about this team on a daily basis. The Islanders put up two goals against the two worst teams in the league, and with each passing day the likelihood of landing Nolan Patrick is becoming greater than the playoffs.

It’s not being negative, it’s taking off the blue and orange tinted lenses and looking at this team and really analyzing the situation for what it is.
