Eyes On Isles

The Islanders will officially replace the “A” on John Tavares’ jersey with a “C” on Monday. Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

After Mark Streit’s departure and months of speculation, the New York Islanders official Twitter account announced on Friday they will hold an official announcement Monday regarding the naming of the teams new captain. While we all know who that person will be, it’s nice to finally have a captain be named to lead the Islanders during the “shift in power.”

The Islanders rookies took the ice yesterday during day one of rookie camp in a closed to the public session at the Nassau Coliseum. Today, Eyes on Isles own Andy Graziano and Co. will be heading to our beloved Old Barn to get their first in person look at the young squad. Make sure to follow on Twitter (@tazman19) for coverage throughout the day from Uniondale.

Isles rookie camp is officially underway, the Coliseum is filled with hockey again, and we’re under one month until the puck drops for the season opener in Newark.

You can never go wrong with a reminder of playoff hockey on Hempstead Turnpike. A huge goal followed by appropriate “MVP” chants for John Tavares. Hockey’s almost back.

It’s a question hockey fans have been wondering all off-season, but it doesn’t seem to be in the Isles cards. For once in a long time, they have a plethora of forwards and potential prospects fighting for roster spots. Don’t expect to see Brunner on the back of an Isles jersey.

The NHL’s Twitter account shared a video of John Tavares’ workout routine yesterday and it’s the perfect answer to anyone still wondering “why Tavares for captain?” Between using bringing a Cup to Long Island or continuing to workout when he’s supposed to be done, I think he’ll wear that “C” just fine.

And everyone thought the Isles would be switching to black…
