New York Islanders Daily: Josh Ho-Sang Scores Game Winner in AHL

New York Islanders prospect Josh Ho-Sang had a two-point game including the game-winning goal and his AHL leading 20th assist.

Coming off the high that was Saturday night, the New York Islanders had an off day on Sunday. The Isles AHL affiliate played yesterday filling the need for any Isles itch you may have had after an emotional night at the Coliseum.

The Sound Tigers won a fun one in overtime over the Springfield Thunderbirds. Otto Koivula had a great game with two goals and Josh Ho-Sang, the lightning rod, had himself an impressive game too.

In regulation, he had his 20th assist on the night which leads the AHL. The Sound Tigers forced overtime and just 91 seconds into it, Ho-Sang’s second goal of the season won the game for Bridgeport.

A very nice move from Ho-Sang who can be so good on the breakaway. After two points tonight, Ho-Sang leads the Sound Tigers with 22 points in 24 games. That’s a .92 points per game pace, something he hasn’t done or eclipsed since 2015-2016 in the OHL.

Ho-Sang is dominating the AHL, and it’s his third year playing in the AHL. The question becomes when does he get the call up to the Islanders? Right now, even with Andrew Ladd out, the Isles have a crowded forward group.

The Isles third line of Tom Kuhnhackl, Val Filppula, and Leo Komarov has exceeded expectations so it’s not like there’s necessarily a glaring hole for Ho-Sang to fill. For me, I’m just apprehensive to keep a talented prospect buried over a veteran with a lower ceiling.

It’s working for the Islanders right now so there likely won’t be a change but Ho-Sang’s success is something to keep an eye on.
