Sunday marked the second anniversary since the New York Islanders hired Barry Trotz to be the 17th head coach in franchise history.

What’s the Pod About?

In late June of 2018, Lou Lamoriello had been in the job as the Islanders President for a month (as GM for a little less). But after relieving Doug Weight from his duties behind the bench, the Isles had a vacancy. And Barry was looking for a job. It was a perfect match.

Unlike his job with the Capitals, the Islanders weren’t an established powerhouse looking to get over the hump. The Isles had just lost their star player and while they had some nice pieces, they needed some work to be a competitive hockey team.

Matt and I go through how Barry turned this team around so quickly. How he helped this team continue their winning ways. And what we can expect going forward from the two-time Jack Adams winner and fourth-winningest coach in NHL history.
