Watch this video of Ilya Sorokin highlights to get yourself hyped up for the 2021 season, his first in a New York Islanders sweater.

For the past six years as Islanders fans, we’ve read up on the numbers and dreamed about him in an Islanders sweater. Well, it’s finally going to happen this year and I for one am extremely thrilled to watch that happen.

Over the last five years with CSKA Moscow, Sorokin has put up save percentages of .935, .940, .931, .929, and .953. He’s had goals-against averages of 1.50, 1.16, 1.59, 1.61, and 1.06 to go along with four 20+ win seasons.

From a very young age, he was dominating in the KHL over in Russia. He’s still just 25 years old, and will get his first crack in the NHL this season but it’s so easy to see why everyone is high on this kid.

Islanders fans aren’t the only ones who are excited about Sorokin. Dimitri Filipovic tweeted this highlight reel of Sorokin that everyone MUST watch:

Sorokin is coming up with big-time save after big-time save and it has us salivating over here at Eyes on Isles so we needed you to see it as well. The exciting part about all of this is the Barry Trotz and Mitch Korn effect.

The Islanders have already got a ton out of Thomas Greiss, Robin Lehner, and Semyon Varlamov the past two years, but with all due respect to them, they don’t have the raw skillset that Sorokin has.

Sorokin’s raw skill and his ability to be molded in the eyes of Trotz and Korn is a scary thought Sure, there’s no guarantee that he will translate to the NHL, but he’s got the best shot with these two guys and this organization, that much is for sure.

I’m genuinely serious when I say that I think Sorokin can be an elite level starter here. The sky is the limit with this one, and Isles fans deserve to be excited.
