After a failed bid to ship Torey Krug to the Philadelphia Flyers, Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period reports that the St. Louis Blues reached out to the NY Islanders to gauge their interest in taking on the 32-year-old defenseman.

Krug reportedly elected to make use of his no-trade clause, shooting down the possibility of him joining a Flyers franchise set to begin their rebuild. Krug signed a seven-year contract in St. Louis at an AAV of $6.5M in 2020, with four years remaining on his deal.

Reaching the 50-point threshold three times in his career, Krug had statistically the worst season of his career last year on a subpar Blues team. Accruing 32 points (seven goals, 25 assists) in 63 games, Krug struggled both offensively and devfensively, posting a -26 rating.

A puck-moving defenseman, Krug's at his most valuable on the power play. He's capable of quarterbacking the top man-advantage unit from the blue line - a role the Islanders have been trying to fill for years.

As Scott Mayfield becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, there could be a void on the Isles' blue line, though Krug will likely not be the player the organization hopes to take on.

A left-shot defenseman, Krug wouldn't be a consideration to replace Mayfield, as he plays along the right wall. He would instead be an option to replace Sebastian Aho or Samuel Bolduc as a left-shot defenseman and the team's fifth or sixth defenseman.

Salary is the biggest obstacle the Isles would need to overcome to bring in Krug, as salary retention by the Blues would be required to accommodate his $6.5M AAV - something GM Doug Armstrong may not be interested in.

While Krug would become a valuable asset to the Isles, the move seems unfeasible at this point in time.
