The New York Islanders have made major strides in trying to get into the 21st century. They opened a new building this year, they've dabbled in NFT's and now they announced a partnership with Socios.com.

Socios is a fan influence and reward app that allows you to win and trade fan tokens with other users. Essentially it combines the idea of sports and crypto, as the app is powered by the digital currency chiliz ($CHZ).

Socios.com CEO Alexandre Dreyfus was excited about the partnership ""New York is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the world. As the Isles celebrate their first season at UBS Arena at Belmont Park, we look forward to helping them strengthen their connection to supporters in New York and beyond."

Socios is global, so it'll give the Islanders an opportunity to engage with not only their local fans but their fans around the world. With the Islanders displaying their meetup groups logos above the tailgate bar in their new building, they've put an emphasis on making their fans from around the country, and now around the globe, feel more part of the community.

The Islanders are not the first team in the United States to get in on this. 25 NBA franchises are already involved and the New England Patriots of the NFL have joined forces with socios already.

If the Islanders believe this is a forward thinking way of getting into the modern era and connecting with fans than I'm all for it. To be completely honest, some of the crypto and NFT stuff is a little over my head but to minimize its importance wouldn't be fair on my part. It's becoming a part of our everyday life just like sports, so the combination of the two certainly makes sense.
