It's been a mixed bag for the NY Islanders' top prospects playing in the AHL with the Bridgeport Islanders in their 2-2-1 start to the season. With Simon Holmstrom struggling in the early season, including being scratched in the Isles' loss to the Buffalo Sabres, is there a forward in Bridgeport ready to take advantage and possibly earn an early call-up? Let's take a look at some of the B-Isles' top young forwards and how they've fared so far this season:

Ruslan Iskhakov

The B-Islanders leading scorer this season with six points, Ruslan Iskhakov, is off to a similar start to last year, coming out the gate on fire. The shifty center recorded five points in his first two games but has since cooled down a bit. The former second-round pick may be soon ready to make his NHL debut, but as a center, it'll be hard to crack the lineup without somebody going down to injury.

William Dufour

William Dufour started the season playing like his hair was on fire. Registering eight shots on goal in the season opener, Dufour has only managed six in his next four games combined. After burying 21 goals in his rookie season and having an impressive showing during training camp, there are significant expectations for Dufour for his sophomore season. He's had a rough go in the early going, but he's too talented to not bounce back.

Matthew Maggio

Bridgeport's most anticipated player entering this season, Matthew Maggio, opened his first professional season with an assist and three shots on goal. After a quiet next two games, Maggio has recorded two goals in his last two. He scored his first on a 2-on-1 to open the scoring on Saturday night against Utica and buried his first on the power play today in an OT loss against the Hershey Bears. Maggio is currently fifth in team scoring.
