Why Adam Pelech Must Be A Plus Once Again for the New York Islanders

PLUS

Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock formed a rock-solid duo that backstopped the Isles to consecutive Conference Final appearances in 2020 and 2021. In particular, Pelech’s hard-nosed, no-nonsense approach makes him one of the toughest blue liners to play against in the NHL.

But that’s only scratching the surface. Like Pulock, Pelech is a team leader who motivates his teammates by example. The Isles know that when Pelech is on the ice, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief.

As a former third-round pick, Pelech has emerged as one of the most reliable shutdown defensemen in the league. While not offensively gifted, his role as a defense-first blue liner makes him an invaluable member of the Isles’ back end.

As long as he stays healthy, it’s hard to imagine any other player controlling the play like Adam Pelech does.
