The Belmont Stakes will be returning to their home at Belmont park this year... sort of.
The NY Islanders have announced The Park at UBS Arena will be open this Saturday for a watch party to view the Belmont Stakes.
The Stakes have been run at Belmont Park since 1905, with the exceptions of 1911-12 when gambling was made illegal in New York State, and from 1963-67 when the race was moved to Acqueduct due to the reconstruction of the grandstands.
This year, the Stakes have been moved upstate to Saratoga Race Course, as the track at Belmont Park will be getting a complete makeover, remaining in Saratoga until at least 2026.
The Park at Belmont Park, which opened this past winter, has become a staple of the NY Islanders and UBS arena. This won't be the first time The Park has hosted a watch party, as the space was open during this season's playoffs when the Islanders took on the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Belmont Stakes watch party will have activities for the whole family, with mini golf, children's inflatables, cocktail areas, and will allow each guest to bring in a 6-pack of their own to the Heineken Beer Garden.
The third leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes is known for its length, typically run at a distance of 1.5 miles. With the change of venue, this year's race will be shortened and run at 1.25 miles.
Winner of the Kentucky Derby, Mystik Dan, and Preakness winner, Seize the Grey, will both be running in the Belmont Stakes field - but neither is considered the favorite to win, as that distinction belongs to Sierra Leone, currently going off as 9-5.
The race can be seen on Fox, with the big race set to start at 6:41 pm and there will surely be plenty of blue and orange at The Park. Who knows, maybe some Islanders players will make an appearance.
