New York Islanders Daily: Garth Is More To Blame

The New York Islanders have gotten off to an awful start. Most of the calls are to fire Jack Capuano but Garth Snow deserves just as much if not more of the blame.

Peter Botte summed up the Islanders situation perfectly. Although he understands that Jack Capuano isn’t well liked, he believes Garth Snow is more to blame for the Islanders struggles and he has a point.

It does seem odd that both Capuano and Snow seem to have nine lives. The Islanders have made it to the second round just once in Snow’s 11 year tenure as GM, but that has seemed to yield him the position for eternity.

In 2007 Snow revealed his plans for a rebuild, it was expected for the Islanders to struggle, but once John Tavares was drafted they had there cornerstone player they just needed pieces. This is where Snow has failed.

Botte mentions the Taylor Hall trade, how the New Jersey Devils landed Hall and it should have been the Islanders giving up Travis Hamonic for their chance at a star winger for Tavares. Hall was a number 1 overall pick not too long ago.

So, Snow has somehow turned this GM gig into a lifetime job, it has to be that way, he’s shown just baby steps in improvement the past decade. 100 point seasons are nice, but continuously just getting to the playoffs is not good enough.

The Isles have to shake things up in the front offense, on the bench, and on the ice if they ever want to take the next step as contenders.
