New York Islanders Tweets Of The Week

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders are coming off their first win in ten games, a 3-2 shootout decision over the very powerful San Jose Sharks last night in California.

Was it the perfect game? Hardly. New York allowed 48 shots on goal and 95 attempts by the Sharks and if it had not been for the outstanding ‘coming of age’ performance by goaltender Kevin Poulin and the heroic antics of the first line, we might still be talking about challenging the franchise record for futility.

But alas, I am not here to rain on anyone’s parade. 2 points are 2 points and the Islanders have been waiting all season for one of their netminders to really step up and steal one, which is exactly what happened last night.

Momentum is built off a single game….a single moment. Could the Islanders victory last night propel them to some kind of an even modest streak that gets them back into the hunt in what can only be deemed a mediocre (at best) Metropolitan division?

Secondary scoring help is on the way in the form of Ryan Strome, officially recalled from Bridgeport today and expected to make his Islanders debut tomorrow night at 9pm when New York closes out the road trip in Phoenix against a Coyotes team they handled easily earlier this season at Nassau Coliseum, 6-1. And the team will be hoping the good vibes generated from last night will carry over and allow them to grip their sticks a little looser.

#islestwitter has certainly been very active over the course of the losing streak and this edition of tweets of the week will reflect that. To offset, I will include some positive vibes from last night to even out the mood.

Whether you buy into the hysteria that comes with each and every shift it seems (and most don’t admittedly) this is a nice mid-week way to breathe some levity into hockey for after all, it’s just a game, right? Right? [crickets]

@NyIslesFans addresses Matt and myself on where the genius of #islestwitter resides, specifically talking to the ridiculousness that is Capuano living in Snow’s basement:

If you need to blow off some steam when attending games with friends, how about a friendly donkey punch? Could make you feel a whole lot better.

Jeff captures his inner Joe McGrath, owner of the fictitious Charlestown Chiefs from the movie ‘Slapshot’, in discussing the Isles latest problems winning games.

What a gem here from Donovan, who reminds all of us to not pay that much attention to #islestwitter as they regurgitate solutions while playing NHL14. Because it really is that easy.

Chris Botta with a critical PSA concerning the latest round of attacks on the media and blogs for not saying what you think should be said.

Jeff once again appears in our sequence, this time reminding fans that Matt Moulson was most certainly not the reason New York went on this skid. Only in a much different way than most would have.

I asked fans, prior to the Sharks game, to provide me with a line from the movie ‘Jaws’ referencing the Isles. Barry with one of the best submissions.

Mike Willhoft, our excellent senior staff writer, is a gem on twitter. Here he channels his inner ‘Stefan’ from Saturday Night Live to provide an explanation on where people can go this holiday season if searching for a new club.

Finally, JT leaving the scene of what seemed like a crime last night after the Isles improbable victory….
