New York Islanders Tweets Of The Week

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders head into the Christmas break winners of two of their last three games after defeating the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena 3-0 last night.

That is correct. No editing is needed. Evgeni Nabokov was sharp in recording the first shutout of the season for New York and three first period goals by Kyle Okposo, Michael Grabner and Casey Cizikas provided all the offense that would  be needed.

Picking up points in four of their last five is nice and gives the team something good to take home to their families and friends as they celebrate the most famous holiday there is.

For the team to make any kind of headway in a still weak Metropolitan division and Eastern conference efforts like this are going to be needed coming out of the break starting on Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders will then travel to Minnesota and Boston to close out the 2013 calendar year.

Continuing with our weekly segment, we now take a look at what was in #islestwitter land. The good, the bad and the downright funny. We like to keep the ugly out of the equation, as there has been so much negativity from the fanbase this season that it does not need to be rehashed here on the pages of Eyes On Isles.

Now, this is funny. I don’t care who you are. Nothing like a full stock of semi-automatic weapons and a full bottle of scotch to make everyone know which NHL team you root for.

One of our own, contributor Tom Ballantyne, had to deal with the unexpected passing of his beloved father last week. This is how section 329 and Eyes On Isles paid their tribute to the big man. Rest in peace, Mr. Ballantyne and know that the Isles will always be with you sir.

Mike Willhoft, our senior staff writer and fully credentialed comedian on staff, with this gem….articulating just how crazy #islestwitter can be at times. Come to think of it, I sent this over to some contacts at EA Sports and they are said to be considering it in the next edition of the hit game. This, of course, was in response to the twitter lashing very incorrectly directed at our friend Arthur Staple, who does a great job doing HIS JOB.

Friedman of WFAN also came under some attack, to which he responded with this gem of a tweet……Personally I think Paris has us all fooled and knows more than all of us combined.

SB Nation took a quick server hit the other day and Saraceni nailed it right on the head with this beauty. This is truly going top shelf, where momma hides the cookies.

Is there really any doubt now which New York team has the nicest Stadium Series jersey? Leahy of Puck Daddy fame is 100% correct here as the Rangers just cloned their AHL affiliate.

Staple recaps the Islanders 5-3 victory over the Rangers and shows that his sense of humor and quick wit matches his journalism expertise.

I might or might not have been on my medication when I tweeted this out and Pete comes back with a zinger of his own, calling out the effects of the popular night-time sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, fever so you can watch the Islanders medicine.

We close out this installment of tweets of the week with a doozy from our own Cal Clutterbuck…..who properly tells Derek Dorsett to can it. Dorsett would come back later in the game with a ‘burn’ of his own, making fun of Kyle Okposo and how he wears his helmet.
