The New York Islanders were able to force overtime, but the overtime period didn’t last long as the Red Wings would score ending the win streak.

This game was meaningful from the start as Frans Nielsen made his first appearance back in New York. He left for Detroit over the summer and it was definitely weird to see him in the opposing white and red sweater as opposed to the Islanders blue and orange.

The Islanders got on the board first with a goal from the suddenly hot Anders Lee.

After being stuck on one goal for a majority of this season Anders Lee has exploded in the last week and a half and is now tied for the team lead in goals.

Mike Green would tie it a few minutes later, and he wouldn’t be done with that. He scored the next goal as well to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead.

The Isles would head into the second intermission trailing 2-1. Just 1:52 into the third Johnny Boychuk released a booming shot.

Tied up once again.

It looked as if Mike Green would then give the Red Wings the lead with his third goal of the night, but after further review the call on the ice would be overturned Due to interference.

It wouldn’t matter because the Islanders would go on to have a bad turnover which led to Henrik Zetterberg giving the Red Wings the lead once more. At that point it seemed all doom and gloom on IslesTwitter.

But, Josh Bailey would play hero (for now) as he tipped one past Petr Mrazek to once again tie up the game.

Bailey has been playing extremely well as of late, and it was good to see the Islanders show resiliency for a change. The Red Wings would end up scoring rather quickly in the OT period as John Tavares got caught on the ice for too long.

Honestly, I thought both teams were deserving of the point but the Islanders just made too many mistakes in this one to come away with the two points. Next up, is the other New York team on Tuesday.
