New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy hopped on 91.9 Sports a radio station in Montreal and dropped a juicy line or two.

Back in June, Mike Bossy thought the New York Islanders should trade their superstar, Captain John Tavares. It was, as they call in the business, an unexpected hot take from the living legend.

Fans hate the idea of trading John Tavares, and understandably so, as Brian Compton has said multiple times “trading John Tavares is the worst idea ever” (TM B-Comp). So to hear, in my opinion, the greatest Islander of all-time say the Isles should trade the best thing to happen to the franchise in the last 25 years was very tough.

Today, he said he heard the name Alex Galchenyuk floating around to the Islanders:

I’m sorry it’s in french but it translates to “I heard that Galchenyuk was offered to the Islanders”. Does he mean in a deal for John Tavares?

More from Rumors

I certainly would hope not, if it was a deal that brought Galchenyuk over while keeping and extending Tavares I’m all for it but if J.T. is a part of the deal like he pondered about back in June then it’s a no from me.

That was not the only rumor circulating. Fair warning, I’m not saying it’s credible, I’m not saying I believe it, all I’m doing is sharing the information and you do with it as you wish. According to a Reddit thread and Twitter allegedly Bossy also said that Tavares declined an $84 million extension.

Just to play the game, if it was real that’s $10.5 million over eight years. He’s probably closer to that $11 to $12 million range so it isn’t that far fetched of an idea. Regardless, just take it for what it is. I’m the mere middle man here presenting what’s being talked about on the old interweb.
