The New York Islanders preseason tour continues as they head to MSG to faceoff against the hated Rangers. John Tavares won’t be in the lineup, but there’ll still be a number of names to watch.
The New York Islanders are right back at it after an afternoon game in Nassau. A game that could very well be the single greatest warmup for a season after a Stanley Cup banner raising, of course.
But just 24 hours later the Islanders are on the road and cross the East River to faceoff against city rivals the New York Rangers at MSG. Preseason games don’t usually matter but anytime it’s against the Rangers bragging rights are up for grabs.
Tonight’s game won’t have the likes for John Tavares or Jordan Eberle to call on, but there’ll still be enough name power on the Islanders roster. Regulars like Brock Nelson, Casey Cizikas, and Cal Clutterbuck will be there.
But with all due respect, everyone’s attention will be rightfully devoted to the cast of New York Islanders rookies on display. Rookies like Joshua Ho-Sang, Kieffer Bellows, and Devon Toews.

We already know that Jaroslav Halak will be getting the start tonight. Leaving Eamon McAdams on the bench. Which is fine. Halak needs the run out there. He needs the reps. We always hear that there are some goalies that just need volume to get in the zone. And if we learned anything from Jaro last season it’s that’s the type of goalie he is.
Remember he was the same guy that took Team Europe to the World Cup of Hockey Finals against Canada and the same guy that averaged a 0.950 SV% and 1.57 GAA for a 6-1-0 record.
